Hi, I'm Lorraine.

Hi, I’m a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and the proud founder of Love Up Pup, LLC. I specialize in helping families build strong, positive relationships with their dogs through individualized support and positive reinforcement training. I’m also a Certified Family Dog Mediator and an instructor for puppy and family dog classes at a leading Humane Society.

With a Master’s Degree from UCLA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UC Irvine, and numerous credentials in the field of dog training/wellness, I bring a deep understanding of human and canine behavior to my work. My professional experience includes coaching individuals in higher education and health services on a national level.

In addition to dog training, for fun I practice martial arts. I’m an 8th-degree black belt/Master of Kung Fu. You’d be amazed at how much this helps me in communicating with dogs and observing movement.

As an avid dog (and people) lover, I combine my diverse background to bridge understanding across species and create harmonious, happy homes for pets and their families.

Our Philosophy

Kindness is everything. This is my philosophy. Always. Every time. Even if it gets some eye rolls!

As humans, we want dogs to fit into our world. But dogs have their own needs, experiences, and ways of communicating. Dogs process the world through their noses. Their mouths. Their paws. And yes, their hearts too. They love us, but they are not like us.

On top of that, humans have selectively bred dogs for very specific tasks and behaviors that we can find unpleasant. Digging, shredding, barking, chasing, foraging, biting—these behaviors feel great and important to them, but we humans generally dislike that in our modern environment.

All dog behavior is that dog’s way of communicating their underlying needs. It's important, even essential, that dogs get their needs met. My goal is to find ways to compassionately meet a dog’s needs—and yours.

“Obedience is not the same as well-being.”

Understanding their world and why they do what they do is the key to my unique style of training. Sometimes my work is teaching skills to help a dog fit better in our world. Sometimes, it is about teaching humans how to meet a dog’s needs— in ways that look nothing like obedience or training. I teach humans how to help their dog feel safe and secure, and how to meet their dog’s needs. When those needs are met, dog “training’ is a breeze. For me and for you.

This is a truth for big, worrisome behaviors, and everyday challenges too.

My work is highly customized to meet your unique needs and your dog’s. I always emphasize you and your pup having fun, feeling safe and secure, and never using  pain or fear to inspire changes in behavior.
